The FSSAI State License is a crucial tool for ensuring the safety, hygiene, and quality of food products sold across the country. This licence is issued by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for eligible Food Business Operators (FBOs) to minimize the risk of harm to the health of consumers and for legal compliance.
A lot of business owners consider State Food License Registration as a formality in the regulatory procedure. It is, however, an important criterion of one's commitment to ensure safe and hygienic food. It also promotes customer trust and enables you to run your business uninterrupted.
FSSAI State License requires businesses to adhere to specified food preparation, storage, packaging, transportation and cleanliness protocols, thus ensuring safe foods for consumers.
Your food business needs to adhere with the use of approved ingredients and follow the food safety and sanitization standards laid down by FSSAI to ensure product quality and safety throughout the production process.
By banishing harmful substances like chemicals, adulterants, toxins, and unsafe additives from food, FSSAI safeguards public health while promoting adherence to regulations.
Complete and accurate information is necessary to be mentioned on the food labels, such as ingredients, nutritional details, manufacture date, expiration date, batch number and FSSAI license number which allow the consumers to make informed decisions about buying food products from licensed businesses.
The FSSAI state license fees varies according to the size, turnover, and the category in which your business falls. The basic FSSAI fees for state license are:

Having a food business without a valid FSSAI State License or not complying with the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 may lead to substantial penalties. You have to ensure that you have the necessary licence and adhere to FSSAI guidelines in order to prevent legal action.
Violations will be punished from INR 5 lakh fines and 6 months imprisonment depending on the violation of a food business operating without a valid FSSAI food license.
The application process is considered to be incomplete and misleading if the information submitted is false, or is intended to mislead the authority in any way.
If the standards laid down under food safety, food hygiene, labelling or food quality are not adhered to. The penalty may be anywhere between INR 1 lakh and 10 lakh depending on the gravity of the offence.
If your business has more than one instance of non-compliant practices, or you do not correct those practices, your business could be suspended which might lead to license cancellation. Therefore, you cannot legally operate until the practices are in compliance.
The registration for the FSSAi Licence typically takes around 15-30 days. It completely depends on the status of your application, like how well the application is submitted with all documents attached, and other factors.
The FSSAI registration is not a single process that occurs only once in a lifetime. The Food Business Operator (FBO) is required to renew their registration even after its expiration so that the business can run smoothly.
You need to submit your renewal application at least 60 days prior to the registration's expiry.
